Coinciding with my change of status from a freelancer to a full- time pen then at Android Central, I decided to pick up the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra. For times, I’ve lamented the fact that Android tablets just can not mound up against the iPad. But with all of the changes in the channel with Android 12L and Android 13, combined with the absolutely gorgeous tackle offered by Samsung, I wanted to see whether this tablet would fit into my workflow the same way that the iPad Pro has done for times.

Rather of taking you through the specs and performance as I did with the full review, I am taking a different approach to the tablet this time around. This” day in the life” member may sound familiar, as it’s commodity that’s constantly seen on the likes of YouTube and other phone reviews. But let’s dive into what a day with the Tab S8 Ultra looks like and how it might fit into your workflow.

After getting my day started with a mug of coffee, I settle into my home office then in the apartment. My office setup is a bit further than it presumably needs to be, but I’ve an affinity for having plenitude of screen real estate. Thanks to the massive14.6- inch display of the Tab S8 Ultra, it makes for a protean redundant screen that can be propped up right in front of me.

As we have covered preliminarily, you can pair the Tab S8 with Windows using Alternate Screen, but that is actually not how I generally use the screen space. Rather, I will fire up my RSS anthology of choice, Feedbin, which is occasionally paired with Slack, to keep an eye on what the rest of the Android Central crew is over to. I can snappily regard down at the screen to see if a new communication has arrived or if there is a piece of breaking news that requirements to be covered.

Choosing between Alternate Screen and just using Android apps is made easier with a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard.

All of this is done with the help of the Logitech MX Keys Mini and the MX Master 3. While I love codifying on my cherished and customized GMMK Pro, that gets put off to the side for part of the day as the MX Keys Mini and MX Master 3 allow me to switch between my PC and the Tab S8 Ultra with just the press of two buttons. Logitech is at the top of the mountain when it comes to protean and ergonomic mice and keyboards, so these are vital to my diurnal workflow.

Since I’ve just joined the Future and Android Central platoon in a full- time capacity, I have had my fair share of meetings formerly. And because I do not have a traditional webcam connected to my custom- erected PC, this is another area where the Tab S8 Ultra comes by. Paired with it’s either the Galaxy Kids Pro or the WH-1000XM4s, depending on my mood and, actually, the temperature in my room.

Samsung’s decision to use binary-selfie cameras hidden in the notch on the Tab S8 Ultra is formerly paying tips, as theultra-wide camera captures further than enough of me and my background. Unexpectedly, the tablet does a enough good job of icing that I do not look all fuzzy and I do not end up being blown out by the two windows at my reverse. It may not feel like all that big of a deal, but the reality for me is that it’s just come one of those” set it and forget it” situations since the tablet is propped up in front of me anyway.

As I covered in mysemi-review of the Tab S8 Ultra’s keyboard, this thing is virtually useless if you want to try and use this setup as alaptop. However, you might be suitable to get down without any major frustrations, If you prop everything up in the perfect way. But if you are like me and you move around a lot, also the tone- clicking trackpad is just going to make you go crazy.

Because the Tab S8 Ultra is loaded up with plenitude of redundant Samsung-specific features, this is where the capability to link your tablet and phone comes in handy. Now, whenever I get a phone call or textbook communication, I do not have to reach for my phone to respond. Rather, I can just answer the call or reply to dispatches right from the tablet. This has come in handy plenitude of times while I am in a original coffee shop trying to get some work done, but the helpmeet and I are also trying to figure out what the plan is for regale.

There is a lot to like, but train operation needs a bit of work.

Commodity that I did not get to cover in the full review, but I wanted to touch on then’s how the Tab S8 Ultra actually performs when doing effects like editing prints for different reviews or whatever I am working on. The first thing that I want to mention is that the erected-in Files app is okay but train operation, in general, is just a massive headache. Of course, these frustrations stem from the fact that I am trying to use my tablet like a computer, and it’s just Android on a tablet rearing its unattractive head. So I have ended up jilting the erected-in Files app altogether in favor of a combination of Solid Explorer and MiXplorer.

While the Tab S8 Ultra (and all of the Galaxy Tab S8 models) have a erected-in microSD card niche, I’ve to actually use a USB-C dongle when I want to transfer prints over from my traditional SD Card. Unfortunately, rather of being suitable to edit directly from the SD card, I first have to transfer it to my expandable storehouse (or directly onto the tablet). Also, I can load up the filmland in Lightroom to make all of the necessary edits. But on the bright side, transferring these images to my desktop PC is easy enough that the only real headache comes when you want to edit directly from the expandable storehouse.

Time to play

Generally, when I am using the Tab S8 Ultra down from my office, it’s just to watch some YouTube or browse Twitter. But there are a couple of use-cases that I’ve started taking further advantage of lately. For one, I am a sucker for Slay the Becket, and having it on a big screen while using the S Pen is just extraordinarily accessible and much easier on my eyes than playing it on commodity like my phone.

The Tab S8 Ultra makes it easy to play Elden Ring from the comfort of my settee.

The other use-case that’s indeed more recent than that’s the capability to play Elden Ring from enough important anywhere, thanks to Steam Link. When I am playing at my office, I generally stick to a mouse and keyboard combination, but when Steam Link gets fired up, that is where my Xbox Series X regulator comes in. This allows me to sit in the living room with my woman while she’s watching whatever show tickles her fancy, and I can still do to try not to get killed in Elden Ring every 10 twinkles.

And now that MLB The Show 22 has lately been released, I can also fire up some Xbox Game Pass (or just sluice from my Xbox) and work on my”Road to the Show” character. I really can not understate how gorgeous the Tab S8 Ultra’s display is, so consuming content or playing games is just an pleasurable experience that noway disappoints.

When I decided to pick up the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra, I was awaiting to detest everything about it and end up just returning it. But then we’re a many weeks, and rather of being frustrated with this mammoth of a device, I am still trying to find new and instigative ways to incorporate it into my workflow.
While it surely falls flat when it comes to trying to turn it into an factual laptop, there are still plenitude of reasons why you might want to add this to your magazine of tech bias. One feeling has continued to stick in my mind throughout the duration of my time with the Tab S8 Ultra, though. However, I still suggest and recommend grabbing the Galaxy Tab S8 Plus, If you want an Android tablet. It’s not as precious, still includes the S Pen, and sports the same power under the hood as its larger stock.

The Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra is presumably overabundance for numerous, but if you want an redundant screen for your Windows computer, or to play games, you can not go wrong. Just make sure you get a proper case or stand to keep it propped up next to your laptop or desktop.
